Technology? Yes, they’re one of the few manufacturers who strive to do as much production as they can in-house, including their transmissions. It took them a while to catch up, but now turbo-charged versions of their engines too exist in every vehicle. They’re now up to date on connectivity, safety and much more too and then there’s their constantly improving aesthetics as well. We can’t decide if it started with the Hyundai Getz or the first Hyundai Tucson, but Hyundai have done in 2 decades what even the Japanese struggled to accomplish in 3, create truly desirable cars that now for the first time should be taken seriously in the performance realm as well. We await the ambitious i30N, a car that in hatch or notch-back is set to challenge none other than the VW Golf GTI itself. It’s always best to aim high, after all.
