The most powerful hatch in the Volkswagen arsenal, the Golf 8 R, goes on sale locally at the end of April – the 400 Nm powerhouse can race to 100 km/h in just 4,8 seconds. The new Golf 8 R is powered by a 2,0-litre four-cylinder EA 888 engine with an all-wheel drive and standard features like mobile inductive charging and a panoramic sunroof.

The new Volkswagen Passat 1.4 TSI DSG has set a South African record by a petrol passenger car, driving over 2000km on a single tank. The Passat drove a distance of 2029 kilometres from the South African and Zimbabwean border gate in Beit Bridge to Moorreesburg – about 90km north of Cape Town – in two and half days.

The VW Kombi in Trendline DSG spec is a very spacious, capable and versatile holdall for the large family or small business. It is very expensive though and if you’re really set on a large bus of this kind and can afford it, go for it. But make sure you swing past Hyundai and take a squizz at the H-1 first, it does everything the VW does, for less.
