Ahead of the official national launch early next quarter, Mahindra XUV700 units are beginning to arrive in the country, kitted with new petrol and diesel engines from the Indian manufacturer.

The engine range includes a new 2,0- litre mSTALLION GDi turbo-petrol engine with 147 kW and 380 Nm of torque and a brand-new 2,2-litre CRDe turbodiesel mHAWK engine with up to 136 kW and 450 Nm of torque.

The XUV700 delivers its power to the front, or all-four, wheels through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

“The XUV700 is one of the most anticipated offerings from Mahindra that is sure to hit the sweet spot with South African customers. It marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs that will offer an adrenaline rush like never before,” says Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.

The new Mahindra XUV700 steps into the highly competitive and growing market for medium-sized luxury SUVs and Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, says: “Our Twin Peaks logo signals Mahindra is ready for the future and that it will continue to innovate and create products for a global audience that is hungry for modern vehicles that offer luxury and durability, and which are within reach of people of all walks of life.”

Designed with a tubular ring structure and high-tensile steel for structural integrity, the XUV700 received a full five-star safety rating for adult occupants and four stars for child safety. It also received the GNCAP Safer Choice Award as the safest car GNCAP ever tested.

“While the final specification of the XUV700 is still to be confirmed for the South African market, the list of safety features includes systems such as Front Collision Warning, Driver Drowsiness Detection, up to seven crash bags and Automatic Emergency Braking,” says Gupta.
